AutoKeyClicker for Linux

The same app as on Windows and Mac. It runs on any 64-bit (Intel or AMD) distro from 2022 or later: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or newer, Arch, and their relatives. It works on X11 and Wayland.

Linux isn't released yet. This is how setup will work when it is. Follow the Discord or the changelog to hear when it's out.

1. Which download

Your systemDownload
Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Pop!_OSAutoKeyClicker-Pro-amd64.deb
Fedora, openSUSEAutoKeyClicker-Pro-x86_64.rpm
Anything else (Arch and so on)AutoKeyClicker-Pro-x86_64.AppImage

The Free files are named the same way, with Free in place of Pro.

2. Installing

Open a terminal and run the line for your download:

  • Ubuntu and Debian: sudo apt install ~/Downloads/AutoKeyClicker-Pro-amd64.deb
  • Fedora: sudo dnf install ~/Downloads/AutoKeyClicker-Pro-x86_64.rpm
  • openSUSE: sudo zypper install --allow-unsigned-rpm ~/Downloads/AutoKeyClicker-Pro-x86_64.rpm
  • AppImage: first move it somewhere it can stay, because updates replace the file where it is. Then run chmod +x AutoKeyClicker-Pro-x86_64.AppImage and open it.

The .deb and .rpm add AutoKeyClicker Pro to your app menu. Open it from there.

3. Keyboard and mouse access

On first launch, AutoKeyClicker asks for one-time access to your keyboard and mouse. It needs this to click and type for you, and to make your hotkeys work while another app is in front.

  1. Click Set up. It asks for your password once.
  2. To do it yourself instead, the same screen shows the terminal commands.

AutoKeyClicker only uses this access to do what you set it up to do. It sends nothing about your input anywhere. See the privacy policy.

4. Your desktop

Depending on your desktop, there may be one more step:

  • GNOME (Ubuntu, Fedora Workstation): the app offers a small helper extension so it can tell where the pointer is. Install it, then sign out and back in once, because GNOME only loads new extensions at login.
  • KDE Plasma, Hyprland, or any X11 session: nothing more to do.
  • Any other Wayland desktop: it asks once to share your screen. Pick any screen. The app only reads the pointer's position from it.

Not sure which you have? echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE prints x11 or wayland.

5. Your Pro key

Your key arrives by email right after you buy. If it isn't in your inbox, check spam. Paste the key in when Pro first starts.

The same key works on Windows, Mac and Linux, on one computer at a time. A Linux install counts as a different computer, so moving your key there uses one of its moves. See License & activation.

Updates

AutoKeyClicker checks for a new version when it starts and asks before installing it. With the .deb or .rpm it asks for your password to install the update. The AppImage replaces itself.

Uninstalling

  • .deb: sudo apt remove autokeyclicker-pro
  • .rpm: sudo dnf remove autokeyclicker-pro (on openSUSE, sudo zypper remove)
  • AppImage: delete the file.

Your profiles, macros, themes and key stay in ~/.local/share/AutoKeyClicker. Delete that folder too if you're not reinstalling.

Checking the download

This is optional. In a terminal, run sha256sum ~/Downloads/AutoKeyClicker-* and compare the result with the checksums under Verify your download.
